A 1983 graduate of Iowa State University with a Bachelors of Architecture, Michael spent 5 years practicing with local Iowa firms prior to opening Simonson & Associates Architects, LLC in 1989. The firm’s focus is on planning, architecture and landscape architecture, both locally and regionally. Michael is licensed to practice architecture in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Nebraska, Minnesota, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Arizona, Colorado, Maryland, Connecticut, Florida, Missouri, Pennsylvania and Wyoming.
Michael is a member of the City of Des Moines Planning and Zoning Commission, the American Institute of Architects, and is active in various other civic and philanthropic causes, including the Des Moines Art Center, Salisbury House Foundation, The Brenton Arboretum, and Hoyt Sherman Place.
Scott is a graduate of Iowa Lakes Community College with a AS in Computer Aided Design. Scott worked 10 years for the Principal Financial Group in the Commercial Real Estate department coordinating company space requirements, designing office spaces around the county, before coming to Simonson.
Scott has been with Simonson since 1999 and has obtained a wealth of experience & knowledge working continuously on all types of projects including Retail, Office, Restaurant, Industrial, Land Planning, Government, Hotel/Motel, Day Care, Education, Financial, Automotive and Mixed-Use. Scott has thorough understanding of the governing authorities requirements such as building codes, ordinances, specifications, accessibility & applies it appropriately to new construction, remodels, renovations and change of use/occupancy scopes.
Scott is a member ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centers), the ICC (International Code Council), and the IABO (Iowa Association of Building Officials), the St. John’s Church Building Committee, the City of De Soto Planning & Zoning Commission and the De Soto Fire & Rescue Department.

Clark is a graduate of DMACC with a degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design. Prior to Simonson, Clark worked for a year and a half for the Principal Financial Group/Terrus Real Estate in the Commercial Real Estate department designing office spaces at the Principal’s corporate campus and satellite offices around the country.
Clark has been with Simonson since November of 1999, and has obtained a wealth of experience and knowledge on a range of projects including Retail, Restaurant, Medical, Office, Industrial, Land Planning, Automotive, Adaptive Re-Use, and Mixed-Use.
Clark views each project as an investment in a continuing relationship with his clients. Clark can leverage his experience to place projects on the fast track, and understands that the first priority is to listen to the client and translate their ideas into buildings and spaces that look amazing and function efficiently. Clark’s clients keep coming back, because they know they can expect a consistent, positive experience.
Clark is a member if ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centers) and the USGBC (United State Green Building Council) – both National and Iowa Chapters.
